Road Trash - Part 1

Road Trash - Part 1

Lot’s of images of projects I’ve worked on, both residential and commercial, will have beautiful items that I won’t have sources for. This is because I have an affinity for road trash.

Want to instantly make a space feel less formal? Road trash.

Want to add an element of interest into a room? Road trash.

Want to warm up an area full of sleek finishes? You guessed it.. Road trash.

Ok ok, the word “trash” isn’t quiitttee true. Unless you’re talking to my husband. Some of these finds are true, side of the road, in someone’s trash picks (no shame). Others are antique shops, roadside stands, hand me downs, Facebook marketplace and the like. All are one of a kind treasures.

So where can you find your very own beloved piece of road trash heaven and how can you use it? Let’s get into it.

If you live in Massachusetts, great! I have so many cool spots. If you don’t we can improvise or maybe you have some you can drop below so we can all share in the garbage goodness.

Brimfield Flea Market

The biggest, baddest gold mine is Brimfield Flea Market located in Broomfield, MA. This is the largest antiques and collectibles show in the country. They only host it 3 times a year with the next one being in may! Check out this website to follow along and score your own treasures here .

JJ West

One of my favorite pieces is from a local vendor I try and creep on whenever he has stuff out - JJ West Estate Cleanouts. Now this guy has the best finds for the best prices but you need to work for it. He sometimes posts things on Facebook marketplace but your best bet is to take a drive by East Bridgewater center and take a look at the big white house and barn next to the elementary school. He is usually putting things out or reorganizing his storage. Now I’ve gotten a lot here - beautiful old oars to decorate a beach and a lake home, a vintage tool caddy and most importantly, this baby which is currently being used for our yoga classes at Blend.

Simpson Spring Bottling Co.

I always get questions about where I got my whiskey barrels and live edge wood. This one is an easy find that most people surprisingly don’t know about. Simpson Spring Bottling Company located in Easton, MA! Not only do they have cool vendors selling their crafts, they have old school bottled soda, seltzer water and water. Simpson Spring is the oldest continuously running bottling company in the US. They serve hand crafted coffee, hot food and even small batch yogurt, cream, etc. I cannot rave about them enough, give them a visit on a Saturday when all their vendors are in house and you will not be disappointed.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace may be one of my favorite places to browse in spare time. I have found so much here, I’ll spare you the expense of hearing about all of them so we’re not here all day. You don’t always have to even know what you’re looking for - just type in a key word you think will work and see what you find! I sometimes type in “board”, “vintage”, “antique” or “farm” for example but whatever vibe you’re feeling, give it a search. The beautiful table in the first picture is an example of what I have found typing “farm table” which is being used by Blend. One of my favorite pieces of all time was found this way as well - this coffee table below. We found a pair vintage lockers for $20 total being used for yoga and classes at Blend as well pictured below.

Attic Treasures

This is another little local place you may miss upon driving by but it is totally worth seeking out. I was initially drawn in by antiques out on the front dirt lot and I am so glad I was! I love finding antique crocks here as well as washing boards, wooden furniture and metal buckets. It just feels so summery having metal pails and old crocks filled with red geranium. Pictured below is my first crock and the metal buckets, since that one I have started a small collection I love tucking plants in to all over my front porch. This place is old school and does not have a fancy website but you can click here for more information!

Now originally, this was all going to be one post. I have since realized I have a solid 20+ more places to list and am finding new ones every month. So enjoy Part 1 and keep a lookout for Part 2! Let me know if you score from any of these places!
